Applications
Small Engines
Gaseous emissions present in small spark ignition engines of 25 horsepower
or less are subject to stringent exhaust emission control standards for CO,
Hydrocarbons and NOx.
These sources of air pollution include both 2-stroke
and 4-stroke engines, hand held devices, generators, lawn equipment and marine
applications.
Hypercat’s 3-way catalyst simultaneously oxidizes HC and CO and reduces
NOx.
CO + 1/2 O2 → CO2
2HC + 5/2 O2 → H2O + 2CO2
NO + CO → 1/2 N2 + CO2
NO + H2 → 1/2 N2 + H2O
5NO +2 HC → 5/2 N2 + H2O + 2CO2
Three-way Catalyst reactions
For customers with requirements sensitive to the heat build-up in the CO conversion,
we can manage this occurrence to the limits desired by the customer to maximize
the reduction in emissions while minimizing heat generation.
By incorporating nano-technology we have been able to meet end-of-life
test requirements for emission control utilizing significantly less precious
metal in the system. Units with further PGM savings are currently under customer
test.
